A friend of mine does frequent walks around our area. I have always enjoyed his albums. Hope you do to. He is also a history buff.

This is a hiking album and it may boring to most, so click delete.

On 22nd Feb 2010 four of us drove to Mt. Samat to explore 3 trails we seen before on our walk around Samat. We parked the car again at the former Pres. Marcos house. The 1st trail started right there. It turned out all three trails go to the very top where thick bamboo is growing. Apparently this bamboo is used to make BBQ sticks which some people dry on the road to the Mt. Samat Shrine.

With time to spare we continued to the ‘Triple Intersection’ which is right on the watershed boundary ridge, running north-south, between the Tala River and the Catmon River systems. This ridge also connects Mt. Samat to Mt. Mariveles. The trails there to Mt. Mariveles and up to Mt. Samat were unsatisfactory, grown over. The trail we used continues down to the Catmon River and I believe is the former Trail 429. We called it a day here and returned to the car.

Here is some more pictures from that same friend. Could actually go in the history forum.
Friends

This is an image album with 69 images of the 65th Anniversary of recapturing Corregidor when Gen MacArthur personally ordered the colors raised on the Old Spanish Flag Pole on 2nd March 1945. This time we were honored by the presence of a paratrooper who liberated it then for us.

Let the images tell the story, all have titles and a few have descriptions:

i've been around, you just can't see me i guess unless i make some noise. :dance02: i think they have a name for that. it's called lurking is it not? i have cut back on my internet postin' dramatically though. all the rantin', ravin', flamin', trollin', whinin', bitchin', snivelin', was gettin' embarrassin' :o

thanks for the link, chris. i was just kind of hoping you had something i hadn't seen yet. i've pretty much drilled google for all it's worth but can't find anything i directly recall. i have lots of photos taken with a kodak 110 instamatic but i can't find them. i used to have photos of the 1976 july fourth air show at clark (the bicentenial celebration). i know they're rare as hens teeth 'cause i was the only one on the flight line taking pictures. i do wonder sometimes how i got away with that. if i ever find them i would share 'em. i'm sure they would compliment any historical archive.

I was afraid of that, sort of figured you had search the internet. I got a few friends that might have some more pictures. I thought my friend Keith might have some buy alas he does not.

If I find some I'll post a link.

More pictures from my friend.

After my leg infection healed I did my 1st walk on the 10th June 2010 and I walked from my home in Barretto to the Kalaklan gate. The Kalaklan gate and bridge have been in the news because the bridge is to be replaced and in the process the old one is going to be closed. That raised a lot of concern as to the inconvenience the gate closure will cause and the traffic problems that may be happening. But it seems the work has started.

This album of 35 images is just about the Kalaklan bridge area of the former Base:

Some more from my friend Karl.

These are of the VFW 4th Of July picnic at Mango's Bar. I am in picture 7, but you can't see me because I am behind John, who is to the the right of Jayme, the guy in the orange ball cap with his hand up. If you look close I am looking down, probably at my cell phone, texting Ruby, she was at home, she came a little later. My friend Ski, also in the picture (blue shirt flags in front), earlier took a group picture of a few of us at the bar. I will scan and post it later.

More pictures from my friend.

With a friend, I haven’t seen in 21 years, we took a walk on my favorite ridge, the Kalaklan Ridge and we were awarded with some nice views. We were able to look down to Subic Bay, Olongapo, SBFZ, the former Naval Base and my home Barrio Barretto. Some of the images are marked up but if you desire a clean copy just email me.

These images are great, many were zoomed in and you will see many areas in close-up. I marked some images extensively and some have long descriptions to tell you what things were or what is new, what is changed!

If you view this album as a slideshow you will not be able to read the descriptions nor will you be able to zoom in. and all the images were uploaded in a higher resolution.
